Conor Benn faces a busy year, with the Chris Eubank Jr. bout failing to materialize. The boxer is now preparing for his bout against Peter Dobson on February 3 at The Chelsea in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Maintaining an undefeated record of 22-0 with 14 knockouts, Benn returned after a 17-month hiatus, securing a 10-round points victory over Mexican Rodolfo Orozco in Orlando. With aspirations of becoming a welterweight champion, Benn has positioned himself as one of the division’s top fighters. But will he get his big fights?
Benn is ambitious. Both he and his promoter Eddie Hearn are busy making sure he gets the best fights this year. However, the falling apart of negotiations with Eubank Jr. has definitely left him disappointed. In an interview with iFL TV, he made his disappointment known.
Conor Benn now looking for ‘big fights’
Benn has stayed away for the most part of the negotiations. As a fighter, his focus is on training and fighting. However, he seems to be flexible when it comes to making a decision about his next few fights. “I’m disappointed in the fight not happening, but it’s the fight I want to give my fans. The big names, the big fights… I’m ready to go for any of them. I was preparing for a big fight. That’s why it is unfortunate.” After Dobson, Benn wants the flag bearers of the sports inside the ring with him.
While the current opponent is not what he envisioned, he wants to give a good show to the fans, regardless. However, Benn is not willing to move up weights. “I feel like you gotta remember I’m the one giving everything away here. I’m coming up to weight divisions, and that fight takes me off course originally where we were set out to go. So we’ll see what big names are there at 147,” revealed Benn. He is considering names like Jermell Charlo. But he is also looking at other fighters as well.
Which two champions is Conor Benn eyeing for his next fight?
If he secures a victory, his focus shifts to high-profile matchups in 2024. In the same interview, he expressed interest in facing Mario Barrios, the WBC interim welterweight champion, and Devin Haney, the WBC super lightweight champion, for the remainder of the year. Despite considering Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, it seemed unlikely, as Ennis’s father, acting as his spokesperson, indicated a disinterest in the fight.

Despite the challenges in securing opponents, he emphasized his readiness to face anyone, mentioning a willingness to even move up to 160. Confident in his mindset and ability, he asserted his readiness to take on any opponent at 147 and emerge victorious.
