Injuries continue to haunt the current college basketball campaign before we enter the mid-season phase of the NCAA. After Azzi Fudd’s exclusion from the competition due to an ACL injury, fans will now bear another heartbreaking absence. As the Texas Longhorns were on their way to having a historic campaign, an unfortunate episode cast dark clouds on their momentum.
It is now official that one of the best perimeter defenders in the country–Rori Harmon–will be out for the remainder of the season. Texas made the announcement on Friday following her absence from the team in their previous encounter. Consequently, the Aces’ veteran No.3 Candace Parker was among the first to show her support for the two-way guard.
Candace Parker reacts to Rori Harmon’s injury
Numerous speculations started to circulate the moment Rori Harman was sidelined from the Texas squad that took on the Jackson State Tigers on Wednesday. Following this, no official word from the head coach Vic Schaefer further tickled everyone’s curiosity bone. Finally, all the conjectures are put to rest as Rori Harmon has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL. Three-time WNBA champion Candace Parker recently posted a story on her Instagram to extend her sympathies and provide further confirmation. Apparently, the dynamic No.3 suffered from this non-contact injury in her right knee during practice on Wednesday.
Soon after, Rori Harmon released an official statement providing further details. She said, “Wednesday during practice, I tore my ACL in a non-contact injury. I’m grateful for the support of my teammates and coaching staff during this difficult time. I also want to thank our medical staff in Texas for taking care of me. I’m heartbroken that I won’t be able to play with my teammates this season, but I’m going to support them and be the best teammate I can be.”

After her sudden exclusion from the team, the question here is who can take her place in the team?
Potential replacements for Rori Harmon
Texas has a few options who can step up deliver in Harmon’s absence. Freshman forward Madison Booker has shown some promise this season with her confidence as a point guard. She was impressive against the Jackson State Tigers scoring 16 points, with 9 assists and had just one turnover. In addition, Senior Shaylee Gonzales is another worthy alternative. The talented No.2 is scoring with an average of 10.5 points per game and has a field goal percentage of 45.9. Furthermore, we can also expect to see freshman guard Gisella Maul in action. The 5′ 11″ has stepped up and delivered for the Longhorns whenever required.
There is no denying that Rori Harmon’s absence will surely hurt Texas in the long run. However, fans will be hoping that the squad can regroup from this setback and focus on their upcoming game. We will have to wait and see whether or not Rori’s injury has an impact on the team’s performance.
