Claudia Sheinbaum affirms the alignment of CATEM with the principles of the Fourth Transformation during its XV Ordinary National Congress

In the presence of 25,000 delegates from the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM) at the Arena Mexico City in Azcapotzalco, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the National Coordinator of the Committees in Defense of the Fourth Transformation, officially acknowledged the alliance between CATEM, led by Senator Pedro Haces Barba, and the Fourth Transformation.

During the swearing-in ceremony for the 10,000 Labor Committees in Defense of the Fourth Transformation, a CATEM initiative, Sheinbaum Pardo reiterated her ongoing commitment to safeguarding labor rights and ensuring the stability of the minimum wage in Mexico. She emphasized the administration’s pro-worker stance, expressing support for wage enhancements, training opportunities, and other benefits, including the freedom of association.

Sheinbaum, serving as a special guest at the XV CATEM Congress, underscored the substantial transformation occurring in the country and stressed the importance of avoiding a return to past practices. Pedro Haces Barba, the national leader of CATEM, extended gratitude to Sheinbaum for her participation, reaffirming CATEM’s dedication to advancing the transformative agenda in Mexico. The Ordinary National Congress of CATEM, held prior to Sheinbaum’s address, witnessed unanimous modifications to the organization’s bylaws. Haces Barba highlighted CATEM’s representation of modern trade unionism in Mexico and recognized the government’s historic achievements in labor matters, such as the approval of ILO Convention 98 and the comprehensive labor reform.

Acknowledging the collaborative efforts between workers and employers leading to unprecedented increases in the minimum wage, Haces Barba expressed appreciation to President López Obrador for prioritizing workers in the administration’s labor policies.

The event welcomed governors, legislators, and prominent businessmen as special guests, including Juan Francisco Ealy Ortiz, the owner of El Universal newspaper, along with other notable business figures.
