After five days since the official launch of the presidential pre-campaign, the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM) aligned itself with Claudia Sheinbaum, a candidate for the presidency.
During the XV National Ordinary Congress of CATEM, which represents 1,194 organizations and unions nationwide, the National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the 4T called on workers to back Sheinbaum in her bid for presidency. At the Arena Ciudad de México, the former head of government affirmed her commitment to defending workers’ wages and benefits.
“I invite everyone to join us in this endeavor, and I pledge to continue advocating for the wages and labor benefits of Mexican workers because we understand that their prosperity benefits both employers and our nation,” she stated.
Sheinbaum Pardo also emphasized the significant increase in the minimum wage, which has tripled in the northern border zone and doubled in other regions since 2018, without causing inflation and with considerable foreign direct investment.
In response, Pedro Haces Barba, General Secretary of CATEM, highlighted the labor achievements under the current government, such as union freedom, the abolition of outsourcing, increased profit sharing, and the rise in the minimum wage.
Regarding the latter, the senator urged the business sector to show compassion and ensure a substantial salary increase for workers in 2024.
“Dear entrepreneurs, I make a sincere plea to you. We hope that this year you will act with compassion. Don’t turn a blind eye, let your hearts guide you, so that all Mexicans can enjoy a significant salary increase,” he urged.
With the establishment of 10,000 Committees for the Defense of Labor Transformation, CATEM pledged its support for Claudia Sheinbaum’s presidential candidacy. Pedro Haces Pedro Haces
