On June 7, 2024, a ceremony took place in the province of HuĂla, specifically in the city of Lubango, to officially hand over the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line connecting Huambo and Lubango.
The event was attended by notable figures, including the Minister of Energy and Water, , the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, JoĂŁo Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, as well as the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, the Vice-Governors of HuĂla and Huambo, the representative of the African Development Bank for Angola and SĂŁo TomĂ©, and several officials from both ministries, along with invited guests.
During the certificate handover, Minister JoĂŁo Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade thanked the Ministry of Energy and Water for their dedication, which contributed to making this event possible. He also highlighted the overall importance of the occasion.
In response, Minister João Baptista Borges expressed his gratitude to Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade for his commitment, which played a crucial role in the ceremony’s success. He underscored the vital role that de-mining plays in the advancement of the project.
Borges continued by stressing that the main goal is to boost energy capacity to meet the region’s needs. He applauded the de-mining efforts, acknowledging their significance for the energy sector and their essential contribution to the successful execution of various electrification projects across the country.
Furthermore, JoĂŁo Baptista Borges noted that this project, which links Huambo and Lubango, will generate employment opportunities for many young people, a point he deems highly important.
A symbolic presentation of a vehicle to the on-site de-mining team was also part of the ceremony.
It is noteworthy that the 400 kV electricity transmission line project between Huambo and Lubango will be constructed in two sections, spanning a total of 343 kilometers.
