“It’s not an issue for me or Klaus,” founding Dead Kennedys guitarist East Bay Ray explains.
When it comes to the punk rock scene, there are few bands that have left as big of an impact as the Dead Kennedys. With their raw energy and politically charged lyrics, they have become a staple in the genre and have influenced countless musicians over the years. And at the heart of it all, is founding guitarist East Bay Ray.
With over four decades in the industry, East Bay Ray has seen it all. From the early days of the Dead Kennedys, to their rise to fame and eventual disbandment, he has been a constant force in the band. And even now, as they continue to tour and perform, he remains as passionate and dedicated as ever.
Recently, there has been some controversy surrounding the band’s current lineup, with some fans questioning the absence of original lead singer Jello Biafra. But for East Bay Ray, it’s not an issue at all. In fact, he and fellow founding member Klaus Flouride have been performing with the current lineup for over a decade now, and they couldn’t be happier.
“It’s not an issue for me or Klaus,” East Bay Ray says with a smile. “We’ve been playing with these guys for so long, they’re like family to us. We have a great chemistry on stage and we all share the same love for the music. That’s what matters the most to us.”
And it’s true, the current lineup of the Dead Kennedys, which includes Ron “Skip” Greer on vocals, D.H. Peligro on drums, and Jeff Penalty on bass, has been together for quite some time now. They have toured all over the world, playing to sold-out crowds and receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike.
But it’s not just about the music for East Bay Ray. He is also proud of the band’s message and the impact it continues to have on people.
“We’ve always been a politically charged band,” he explains. “We have never shied away from speaking out about important issues and that’s something that will never change. Our music is a reflection of the world we live in and we want to use our platform to make a difference.”

“We have some of the most dedicated and passionate fans in the world,” he says. “They have been with us since the beginning and continue to support us through all the ups and downs. We wouldn’t be here without them.”
