I’ve spent more than a decade as a special education teacher, and during that time, I’ve witnessed the tremendous impact that inclusion can have on students with disabilities. It’s a simple concept, but one that is often overlooked or misunderstood. Inclusion means that all students, regardless of their abilities, are fully integrated into the general education classroom and are given the support they need to thrive. It’s not just about physical presence, but also about creating a sense of belonging and providing equal opportunities for learning.

As a Voices of Change fellow, I have had the opportunity to share my experiences and insights with others and to learn from fellow educators who are also passionate about promoting inclusion. The fellowship has been a transformative experience for me, both personally and professionally. It has opened my eyes to new ideas and strategies, and has given me the tools and support to be a more effective advocate for inclusion in my school and community.

The Voices of Change fellowship is a unique program that brings together educators from different backgrounds and experiences, united by a common goal: to create more inclusive and equitable learning environments for all students. The fellowship is a collaboration between Teach For All and the Center for Inclusive Education, and is designed to empower educators to lead change in their classrooms and communities.

During the fellowship, I have had the opportunity to attend workshops and conferences, participate in online learning modules, and engage in meaningful discussions with my fellow fellows. We have explored topics such as Universal Design for Learning, differentiated instruction, and the importance of self-advocacy for students with disabilities. The fellowship has also provided me with access to a network of experts and resources that have helped me to deepen my understanding of inclusion and to implement effective strategies in my classroom.

One of the most valuable aspects of the fellowship has been the opportunity to collaborate with other educators from around the world. We have shared our successes and challenges, and have learned from each other’s experiences. It has been inspiring to see the innovative and creative ways that my fellow fellows have implemented inclusive practices in their own classrooms and schools. These connections have not only enriched my own practice, but have also expanded my perspective on what is possible when it comes to promoting inclusion in education.

As a special education teacher, I have seen firsthand the transformative power of inclusion. When students with disabilities are given the support and resources they need, they can thrive in the general education classroom alongside their peers. Inclusion not only benefits students with disabilities, but also has a positive impact on their classmates, who learn to appreciate and celebrate diversity. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Through the Voices of Change fellowship, I have been able to amplify my voice and share my passion for inclusion with a wider audience. I have had the opportunity to write articles, speak at conferences, and lead workshops, all with the goal of spreading awareness and promoting inclusive practices. It has been incredibly rewarding to see the impact that my advocacy has had on others, and I am grateful for the platform that the fellowship has provided me.

In addition to the professional development and networking opportunities, the Voices of Change fellowship has also given me a sense of community and support. I have met like-minded educators who are just as passionate about inclusion as I am, and we have formed a bond that extends beyond the fellowship. We continue to support each other and collaborate on projects, even after the fellowship has ended.

As my fellowship journey comes to an end, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences and opportunities that I have had through this program. I am also filled with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to continue advocating for inclusion in education. I am confident that the skills and knowledge I have gained through the fellowship will continue to guide me in my journey as an educator, and I am excited to see where this journey will take me next.

I encourage all educators who are passionate about promoting inclusion to consider applying for the Voices of Change fellowship. It is a life-changing experience that will not only benefit your students, but also your own personal and professional growth. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable education system for all students. Let’s be the change we want to see in the world.
