Reigning NFC champion Eagles have fallen behind the runner-up 49ers after a 3-game loss streak in the NFL. However, their divisional lead remains safe as of now. The Cowboys’ recent fumbles have provided them with a late opportunity to maintain their division leadership.

And the Eagles are extra conscious this time. The only way they can extend their lead over the Cowboys is by winning every single game. And if they can achieve this feat by clinching the NFC East title once again, they will break a 19-year-long hiatus in the conference.

The Eagles’ defensive unit: ready for the playoffs

It’s simple for Eagles’ Jordan Mailata and Brandon Graham. Ahead of the playoff-sealing Cardinals’ match-up, OL Mailata said “Everyone’s mindset is just winning this game”. He went one step ahead to fix their aim for every game ahead, “we’re treating it like a playoff every game from now on.”

Graham was also focused on their next target; “we still, got everything in front of us”, said the DE. “Some stuff’s gotta happen but we gotta make sure we win”, he said, outlining that the outcome was the only thing that mattered to them.

If the Eagles have learned anything in the past few weeks, it’s that not taking anyone lightly regardless of their records. And if they put the learnings to work, there’s a piece of history waiting for them 2 weeks later.

The Eagles nearing history with back-to-back NFC East titles

The pack of the NFC leaders consists of three teams: the 49ers, the Eagles, and the Lions, all with an 11-4 record. And each is leading their respective divisions. However, the Eagles (11-4) face the toughest competition among the pack from division rival Cowboys (10-5). But while the Cowboys are on a 2-game loss streak, the Eagles have bounced back from even worse against the Giants.

Having learned it the hard way, the Eagles will look to buckle up everything against the Cardinals on December 31. If this game and the following one against the Giants goes as planned, the Eagles will be the first team since themselves in 2004 when an NFC East side won consecutive division titles. During the 19 years in between, no team has been able to achieve the feat.
