Ziggy Marley, the Grammy award-winning musician and son of legendary reggae icon Bob Marley, is back with a new album titled Brightside. The album, which was released on May 14th, has been receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Recently, Billboard had the opportunity to sit down with Ziggy at his favorite vegan spot, Crossroads Kitchen in Los Angeles, for an exclusive interview about his latest project.
As we settle into our seats, Ziggy orders a green juice and a plate of vegan nachos, a staple at Crossroads Kitchen. With a warm smile, he begins to talk about his journey with Brightside. “This album is really special to me because it’s all about positivity and finding the bright side in every situation,” he says. “I wanted to create something that would uplift people and spread a message of love and hope.”
Ziggy reveals that the making of Brightside was a collaborative effort with his team of musicians and producers. “I wanted to work with people who share the same vision and energy as me,” he says. “We wanted to create music that would make people feel good and inspire them to keep moving forward.”
One unique aspect of the album is that it was recorded entirely in 432 Hz, a frequency believed to be in harmony with the natural vibrations of the universe. Ziggy explains that he was drawn to this frequency because of its calming and healing effects. “I wanted to create an album that not only sounds good, but also feels good,” he says. “Music has the power to heal and uplift, and I wanted to harness that power in this album.”
One of the standout tracks on Brightside is “My Father’s Daughter,” a heartfelt tribute to Ziggy’s father, Bob Marley. The song, which features a sample of Bob’s voice, is a beautiful reflection of their relationship. “I wanted to honor my father in a way that was authentic and true to our bond,” Ziggy says. “He was not only a musical icon, but also a great father and mentor to me. I hope this song can serve as a reminder of his legacy and the love he had for his family.”
As we finish our meal, Ziggy reflects on his upbringing and how it has influenced his music. “Growing up in a musical family, I was exposed to a variety of genres and styles,” he says. “I’ve always had a deep love for reggae, but I also draw inspiration from other genres like rock, soul, and funk. I think that’s what makes my music unique.”
Before we say our goodbyes, Ziggy leaves us with a message for his fans. “I hope this album brings joy and positivity into people’s lives,” he says. “We are living in challenging times, but I truly believe that music can be a source of healing and unity. Let’s spread love and keep looking towards the bright side.”
As we watch Ziggy leave the restaurant, we can’t help but feel inspired by his passion and positivity. Brightside is not just an album, but a testament to the power of music and its ability to bring people together. With its infectious melodies and uplifting messages, it’s a must-listen for any music lover. Thank you, Ziggy Marley, for reminding us to always look towards the bright side.
