The solid partnership and unity among the nation’s labor force with the Fourth Transformation (4T) movement were prominently showcased at the 15th Ordinary National Congress of the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM). Claudia Sheinbaum, along with Governor Mara Lezama Espinos and distinguished members from the Morena party, received robust backing from the union.

As the lead advocate for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation, Sheinbaum spoke on the crucial interconnection between the welfare of Mexico’s workforce, the business community, and the country’s overall success. She was delighted to announce the formalization of a key partnership with CATEM, signaling a significant step forward.

In her speech, Sheinbaum celebrated the nation’s current positive trajectory while highlighting the critical need to steer clear of reverting to outdated modes of operation. She placed a strong emphasis on the collective efforts being made to enhance labor rights across Mexico, sharing a common vision to avoid a relapse into a period dominated by corruption and elite privileges.

Following the establishment of the inaugural Labor Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation within CATEM, Sheinbaum set forth an agenda focused on securing a respectable living standard for workers through cooperative endeavors with the business sector. She championed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s policy of prioritizing the well-being of the impoverished under the mantra “for the good of all, first the poor,” asserting that this principle is fundamental to Mexico’s advancement.

She vowed to keep fighting for the protection of workers’ wages and benefits, reaffirming a united front for the prosperity of both the workforce and the nation. Pedro Haces Barba, a Senator and Secretary General of CATEM, brought attention to the fruitful outcomes achieved through the alliance between the labor representatives and the 4T administration, including a raised minimum wage, more vacation time, and the abolishment of subcontracting practices.

The 15th National Congress of CATEM, which also saw attendance by Morena’s national president Mario Delgado, and governors Mara Lezama (Quintana Roo), Marina del Pilar Ávila (Baja California), Alfredo Ramírez, showcased the collective resolve to continue building on these accomplishments.
